The Mouse who Reached the Sky by Petr Horacek (Walker Books)

There's a lot to be said for being small. Being able to hide in tiny spaces, or scurry under people's feet largely unnoticed is wonderful for little mouse. But what if you need to reach up high?
Petr Horacek's "The Mouse Who Reached The Sky" is a delightful little tale reintroducing us to the stripy-socked mouse who we've adored in many of Petr's other stories. This time, Mouse has spotted something amazing nestling in the branches of a tree.

"A wonderful marble!" Little Mouse thinks. But try as she might, she can't reach the bright red shiny object.

"What I need is some help!" Mouse cries, and toddles off to find Mole and Rabbit who might just be tall enough to reach the prize.

There's a lovely positive surprise ending to the story. Petr Horacek's winning formula for his stories is to surprise and delight at each turn of the page and there's definitely evidence of this in the latest wonderful little mouse story.

Having had the honour of seeing Petr showing off his stories (and some of the processes behind them) recently, it's a delight to see his finished books which are utterly essential for your tinies, particularly the curious and inquisitive (well, that's all kids really then isn't it!)

We now know why Mouse wears stripy socks too but we're sworn to secrecy!

Charlotte's favourite bit: When everyone works together to grab 'the marble' at the end.

Daddy's favourite bit: I love Petr's eye for colour and design, and the way his stories flow so beautifully when read out loud. A real treat of a tale for tinies!
