Squirrel Me Timbers by Louise Piggott (Curious Fox Books)

Ahoy! Ahar! Yo-ho! Brace yourself for many, MANY pirate puns as we hoist the mainbrace and set sail for "Squirrel Me Timbers" by Louise Piggott...
A pirate's life for ye? We know you just cannot get enough of pirate books (in fact it seems to be our most searched-for term on the blog so we KNOW your secrets, ar-harrrrr!)

So have you room for one more in your avast collection? (I did warn you pirate puns would be all over this review! GALLEONS of 'em!)

The pirate in this story is small, red and a bit obsessed with nuts. Well, he would be really, he's a squirrel but not just any run-of-the-mill bin-feasting scurrying little fellow, this squirrel is a pirate.

Armed with plenty of get-up-and-go-ho-ho, adventure begins when squirrel finds a treasure map! He can hardly believe his eyes, the map promises ONE ZEEEELION nuts for the successful would-be treasure hunter. Booty-ful indeed!

So squirrel sets out. No ship is required, just a ton of derring-do, a hardy stick as a sword and a jaunty cap, scarf and eyepatch to make the outfit complete. But squirrel finds that a pirate's life is fraught with danger at every turn! Will he ever make sense of that pesky map?

It's a rollicking rhyming story told with gusto and illustrated gloriously by Louise Piggott. I know you've probably seen 'em all when it comes to pirate stories but here's one that may just literally drive you nuts!

Charlotte's favourite bit: Hang on squirrel, are you sure you're reading that map right?

Daddy's favourite bit: Fun and hilarity with a pint-sized pirate who is quite literally nuts about treasure!
