In Laura Weston's utterly gorgeous "The Butterfly Garden", we explore the life cycle of butterflies from egg to caterpillar and finally to the winged beauties themselves.
The book may, at first glance, look stark and bleak but as soon as you discover the hidden flaps to lift, a world of glorious colour is revealed!
We've long sung the praises of 'lift the flap' books even for older children (though with this sturdy board book, the tiniest of tinies can also enjoy the wonderful butterflies, plants and flowers the book slowly reveals). In fact I had purposely kept this one a bit of a secret before I let Charlotte loose on it, to see how long it would take her to discover the book's secrets herself.
Stunning linework gives way to glorious and vibrant colours under hidden flaps |
Laura's gorgeously technical and precise linework is complimented by her use of sumptuous and luxurious colours tucked away underneath those flaps. The Monarch Butterfly is such a glorious creature, it's lovely to see a book devoted to showing them off at their best.
Each scene explodes with colour as your little ones explore |
Daddy's favourite bit: A luxurious and gorgeous book perfect for a wide age range, dedicated to introducing children to the wonderful wildlife around them and the gorgeous butterflies we can find right on our own doorsteps.
