As we move further into Autumn and the first leaves have already fallen, what perfect timing to read a fantastic story book that shows the changing seasons as the backdrop to a rather touching little tale of an unlikely friendship.
Lion lives alone, a fairly humble life but he enjoys his garden and can usually be found working away amongst the shrubs and flowerbeds. One morning however, Lion finds something unusual in his garden, a poorly bird who lies on the ground completely exhausted and the worse for wear.
Lion tends to the bird, takes him in and as the bird slowly recovers he realises that it's too late for the bird to catch up with his migrating friends, so the pair tuck in for the long winter ahead.
As they do, Bird and Lion become firm friends and Lion realises that he was lonely before, but with Bird around there's tons more fun to be had.
All too soon Winter turns to Spring, and to Summer and before Autumn Bird spies migrating flocks in the sky again and decides he's strong enough to leave.
Poor Lion is left alone once more.
Memories of their winter together are still fresh in his mind, but will Lion ever see his friend ever again?
As we said, this is a lovely and wonderfully touching tale that will really warm the cockles of your heart. Beautifully illustrated and wonderfully paced.
Charlotte's favourite bit: Bird snuggling up in Lion's lovely warm home.
Daddy's favourite bit: Lovely touching stuff, very much the sort of book that's perfect for cuddling up to as the Autumnal chill takes hold.
