Most people get fairly grumpy about the onset of Autumn, closely followed by Winter. But for us it means even more opportunities to snuggle up in the warm with a fabulous book...
Way back when Charlotte was tiny enough to snuggle in my arms while I read to her, we fell completely in love with Jane Hissey's classic "Old Bear" stories.
Beautifully illustrated, always with a huge sense of fun, and of course with a cast of the most delightful toybox character you could ever hope to meet, we've loved each and every one of them (in fact Charlotte still vociferously demands "Ruby and the Naughty Cats" which is her favourite by far).
This stunning anthology, "Old Bear's Bedtime Stories" collects together a set of lovely little tales just perfect for those winter nights as they draw in. Old Bear is the star of each tale but all his teddy and animal friends also feature in a varied collection of stories, embarking on adventures with a trip to the theatre or perhaps a chilly picnic in the stunning snowy landscape.
Most book bloggers might identify with a particular quandary we sometimes have on the blog. Sometimes I worry that books that we've loved for years might one day fall out of favour and that Charlotte won't want to hear the stories or read them as they're meant for younger children but Jane's books seem to comfortably buck that trend, so even though they're an utter delight for tiddlers, older children still love them just as much too.
This is a lovely thick hardback collection that you absolutely should not miss!
Charlotte's favourite bit: Every time Ruby or Little Bear appear in a story, she almost cheers with glee!
Daddy's favourite bit: Beautiful stories charmingly collected in a really wonderful bedtime anthology packed with fun and adventure for little (and not so little) ones.
