One of the funniest children's writers on the planet is also one of the most brill artists too. So imagine if that person shared some of their doodling secrets? Our First Book of the Week is "Claude Doodle Book" by Alex T. Smith
It's always fantastic to see book post elicit a cackle of glee from Charlotte when it arrives, and as soon as she spotted Alex T. Smith's latest "Claude" book she was delighted! "But this one's different, Daddy?" she squealed. "It's a drawing book!"
She was right. Alex has given you, dear reader and doodler, the chance to shape Claude's adventures in your own unique way!
Those who've been lucky enough to see Alex running workshops at any book events will know that he's an utter expert when it comes to keeping an audience of little (and not so little) ones absolutely transfixed. So it is with "Claude Doodle Book" which kicks off by letting you scribble everyone's favourite beret-wearing dog-about-town (and his woolly yet stylish sidekick Sir Bobblysock).
Unlike most art books, kids will find Alex's instructions clear and precise so before long you'll be drawing Claude with aplomb, and the fun doesn't stop there.
Take Claude on a journey to all his favourite places. Into town, to the seaside or even to the farm as you kit out Claude in stylish threads, with all the accessories and kit he'll need for his adventures.
The book is full of rather hilarious (and sometimes downright cheeky) inspirations for new adventures to send Claude on.
The ultimate question though is, can you bear to deface a book? Would you dare to doodle in a book as awesome as this? Best buy two copies to be on the safe side - one to draw in and one to keep "for best" :)
