Max and Bird by Ed Vere (Picture Puffin)

Ed Vere's awesome kitten hero is back for a new book, and this time he's brought a friend along...
In "Max and Bird", Max the curious and inquisitive kitten has made a new friend. Bird is a tiny little flapper and Max knows that instinctively cats are supposed to chase birds...and EAT them!

Bird is slightly worried about this, but makes a deal with Max. If Max can teach him how to fly, he'll let Max chase him (and, er, eat him if that's what it takes!)

Of course, kittens and chicks know that learning to fly isn't quite as straightforward as it sounds. Just standing there flapping won't work, nor jumping off high buildings and hoping for the best. As for enlisting the help of a snooty pigeon? Well that's a complete waste of time (we hate pigeons, they're just RUBBISH!)

So it seems that the two are fated never to fulfil their destinies. Until one day, both realise that the solution has been under their noses all the time.

Will Max eat his friend though?

Well you'll have to find out by reading the book! Ed just makes the creation of sublime picture books look so easy, and just when we thought the subject of 'friend books' had been done to death, up pops this little beauty! We love it!

Charlotte's favourite bit: The rude pigeon (who you have to hope gets his comeuppance by being scoffed by an angry moggy later on)

Daddy's favourite bit: I love how Ed can make such expressive characters, the look on bird's face at times is priceless! Poor little mite!
