Our Second Book of the Week is a brilliant addition to Portico's "Cool" series. Myths and Legends abound!
"Cool Mythology" is just the sort of book we can't get enough of. We love history, and of course we love mythology because who DOESN'T love delving into the past to find out what our ancestors believed, worshipped or were scared pantless of!
The latest book in the series by Malcolm Croft and Damien Weighhill examines the labyrinthine ways that creation stories, common myths and stories cross over the entire globe between many different and diverse cultures. Cool Mythology breaks down myths into component story types (such as the hero embarking on a quest for an amazing object or artifact, or a downtrodden character making their fortune using their wits etc).
Humour is injected throughout this tiny but packed solid book full of wonders and marvels, with some fantastic renditions of our favourite mythical beasts.
Do you know how to determine whether a unicorn horn is genuine?
Would you know how to outwit an ogre?
How on earth do you take a three-headed dog for a walk?
All will be revealed in this marvellous book!
Charlotte's best bit: Learning all about Norse mythology, which was new to her but is now a bit of an obsession (personally I blame Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston!)
Daddy's favourite bit: So many fascinating insights and observations in this diminutive but amazing little book. A brilliant addition to the series, our favourite so far.
