Wow. Now this is something really special! A captivating account of the early days of the American Frontier in "The Little Pioneer" by Adam Hancher...
We're always on the look out for books that cover subject matter that steers well away from the traditional child-appeal tropes. No pirates, no princesses, and yet books like "The Little Pioneer" really draw children in purely because it steps them outside their comfort zone.
This is the tale of a young girl who embarks on an exciting, scary and sometimes perilous journey along with her family to find a place to call home in the days of the wild west.
Adam Hancher deals expertly with a subject that has always been truly fascinating, heart-wrenching and a testament to the bravery of ordinary everyday folk who took huge risks to find their own patch of land to eke out a living, somewhere in the back of beyond.
It's a truly beautiful book. The illustrations bring the story to life and help to reinforce the positive message of bravery and hope in the story.
Stunning stuff!
