Would-be coding and computer geeks are going to be in heaven with this fantastic 'how to' book on the Scratch programming language.
For those not in the know, Scratch is a modular programming language for kids. The aim is to teach children the basics of how a computer language works, and to teach them some of the principles they can then use in other languages to develop their very own games (and let's face it, if there's one thing kids are pretty much in universal agreement about, making your own games is COOL COOL COOL!)
in "20 Games to Create with Scratch" there are a ton of maker projects for the language whether you're using the desktop version or dipping into the mobile version on iPad or iPhone.
Each project sets you up with clear and concise diagrams to show you which bit of code goes where, and also explains what that code is actually doing.
Charlotte got straight to work with this, coming up with her very own drag and drop version of Pokemon Go (don't tell Nintendo!)
As soon as kids start to see the fruits of their labours, they can't wait to expand on the knowledge in this book with their own custom Scratch projects. It's a fantastic way to get them off to a flying start in programming and it's a really fantastic resource for picking up Scratch in a friendly and easy to understand way.
Charlotte's best bit: Writing her very own Pokemon game
Daddy's favourite bit: Scratch is a fantastic way to get kids coding, and this book really does give them loads of brilliant and interesting projects to hone their gamer coding skills. Fantastic!
