Back in October last year we reviewed the rather awesome "Your Alien" by Tammi Sauer and Goro Fujita. Guess who's back...!
Yep indeed, those of you who remember our original review will note how much we loved the original approach to a story about a young boy making a new best friend. Tammi's gentle storytelling and Goro's awesome artwork were a fab combination making it a picture book hit.
The original story was a classic 'fish out of water' tale of the alien trying to figure out the weird and wonderful life we earthlings live.
In "Your Alien Returns", the story flips things nicely on its head and this time the boy is the fish out of water, jetting off in his alien chum's flying saucer to visit a distant planet to see the alien's home planet first hand.
At first things are awesome, I mean who wouldn't want to fly off into space to see the stars and planets, and then to land on a truly alien world?
But the boy soon realises that things are different, and some things are just a bit weird too!
Thankfully when you've got your best friend in tow, life has a habit of being a breeze and the two friends spend a blissful time playing, learning and enjoying life.
Rather liked the subtle allusion to what it would be like if you had to live and adapt to another culture that was entirely different to the one you're used to. That's clever, and that marks this book out for special attention, as does the truly wondrous depiction of the alien's homeworld (particularly those cool looking alien ice creams).
"Your Alien Returns" by Tammi Sauer and Goro Fujita is out now, published by Sterling Publishing.
