Rachel Renee Russell's "Dork Diaries" series has had a fantastic run - and though Charlotte arrived late in the day, she is now steadfastly working her way through the entire back catalogue of dork Nikki's adventures.
When she collects enough pocket money for her own books, she will often grab another title in the series - and so it was with "Skating Sensation".
We join the tale as Nikki is once again mooning over her crush Brandon, who volunteers at a local animal shelter.
He's such a sweet guy - of course he wants to help those adorable puppies!
Then Brandon tells her that the shelter is in danger of closing, and Nikki knows she can't let that happen. Especially when she discovers a shocking secret about Brandon that makes keeping that shelter open more important than ever.
So Nikki and her friends Chloe and Zoey enter an ice skating competition to help raise money for the shelter, but (big surprise) Mackenzie has to stick her nose in and cause trouble so that she can be the one to swoop in and save the day.
No way will Nikki let that happen: She'll just have to come up with some extra creative ideas this time!
Watching Charlotte devour this one was actually quite funny - we're not exactly starved of books but seeing her juggling three books consecutively including this one ("This is my "read over breakfast" book, this is my "Read over dinner" book and this is my "Read before bedtime" book!") shows we must've done something right when bringing her up, because if she reads that many books for pleasure and fun, that's gotta be a good thing.
"Dork Diaries: Skating Sensation" by Rachel Renee Russell is out now, published by Simon and Schuster (self purchased).
