Good lord, has it really been ten years since we first met those sneaky underpants-stealing aliens? Let's catch up with those knicker-snatching lovable rogues!
10 years ago we had no idea how much our lives were about to change. My wife and I had only just found out we were about to have a baby - so we were still blissfully unaware that our tiny little scamp would turn out to be a 9 year old book loving little madam.
I remember our first trips to the local library, and spotting this brightly coloured book with its cheeky title. Who could possibly resist it? Certainly not Charlotte, who swiftly developed her own taste in picture books and quite often grabbed at least one of the "Aliens Love Underpants" books for her bi-weekly book stack.
Claire Freedman and Ben Cort nailed it right out of the gate with a rhyming book par excellence, winningly combining witty and clever lines with the most fabulously colourful illustrations.
By now you're familiar with these extra-terrestrial long-john nappers, a band of happy aliens who come down to earth - not to meet you but to rifle through your smalls drawer or your washing lines in search of the perfect pair of Y fronts, the most amazing granny bloomers or a pair of frilly knickers.
It's harmless fun of course, cheeky but with the best of intentions and since 2007 the series has gone on to sell by the bucketload, spawning a whole series of underpants-related sequels...like:
Monsters Love Underpants
Dinosaurs Love Underpants
Aliens Love Panta Claus
...and of course our original review of "Aliens Love Underpants" from way back when!
Still as gigglesome as it was 10 years ago, and if you haven't got a copy in your bookshelves, it's about time you rectified that situation, buster.
"Aliens Love Underpants" 10 Year Anniversary Edition is out today, published by Simon and Schuster Children's Books (kindly supplied for review)
