ReaditDaddy's Picture Book of the Week - Week Ending 19th May 2017 - "Sky Private Eye and the Case of the Missing Grandma" by Jane Clarke and Loretta Schauer (Five Quills)

This week's Picture Book of the Week takes a well known fairytale and adds some delicious sprinkles, frosting and a buttery biscuit base! "Sky Private Eye and the Case of the Missing Grandma" by Jane Clarke and Loretta Schauer.
Sky Private Eye is back for another adventure, and this time she's ready to help a well known fairytale heroine.

Little Red Riding Hood is worried. Very worried. Grandma has gone mysteriously missing from home, and Red's rather concerned that The Big Bad Wolf might have scoffed her up for dinner.

It's up to Sky Private Eye to use all her cunning detective skills and her quite considerable baking prowess to solve this tricky mystery.

Kid detective stories are definitely hitting our review pile more frequently than ever before, and we really loved the innovative twist in "Sky Private Eye and the Case of the Runaway Biscuit".

Now the series has entered its stride, we loved this even more than the first book.

So where is Granny? We don't want to spoil things too much but Granny is actually alive and well - but for how long? She's taken off on holiday with a tall dark and rather large-toothed stranger, the Big Bad Wolf himself. Granny seems to have taken rather a shine to this furry companion but can Wolfie be trusted? Will Sky and Red see through his tricks, and will Sky be in the nick of time with some impromptu baking?

We must say, we'd rather love some of Sky's fabulous gadgets. Who wouldn't want a portable oven that can whip up tasty treats in seconds, cool them down, and serve them up just in time to avert disaster?

It's a fabulous series with tons of potential for new adventures, and a fabulous female hero that girls and boys will love.

Charlotte's best bit: That rather fabulous portable oven that can whip up a cupcake faster than you can say "What big teeth you have!"

Daddy's favourite bit: Fun with tons of potential, rejigging classic stories with a whole new baking twist.
