Our Picture Book of the Week this week delves into the machinations of a hugely complex biological machine. Our bodies!
We don't really watch a lot of TV but now and again Charlotte loves to tune into CBBC and in particular any programmes dealing with interesting nuggets of information and facts.

She loves Horrible Histories of course, but she also really loves "Operation Ouch" - hosted by Chris and Xand Van Tulleken.

The series has been running for a while now (and has just popped up again over the summer on CBBC for Series 4), and we've long wished for a book based on the series that goes into tons of detail on our wonderful bodies.

So here it is, the fantastic "HuManual" published by Puffin - and what do you know, it's just as fab as the show!

Riddled with Chris and Xand's trademark medical humour (which will tickle your funny bone for sure), it's a fantastic and interesting dive into what makes us tick, and of course why our bodies behave in the way they do.

Look away if blood makes you squeamish!

Chris and Xand tackle just about every subject, from why our blood is fantastic and amazing stuff, to the inevitable dive into the icky bits - like poo and wee (well, it wouldn't be a kid's book without a goodly dose of scatological humour, now would it?)

Quite literally eye popping! Ewww!

It's a dazzling mix of fantastic illustrations, photos from the show, and of course tons and tons and TONS of brilliant facts served up in a hugely attractively presented book that will keep kids completely captivated for ages (and who doesn't need something that does that in the long summer holidays eh?)

Altogether now, say WEEEEEEEE!

Every bit as awesome as the TV series, a surefire hit.

Charlotte's best bit: Discussing at length whether mummy and daddy are healthy, by the shape of their poos (I worry about my child sometimes).

Daddy's favourite bit: Brilliant, just like the show. Fab presentation, full of hilarity, and of course also full of very interesting physiological facts to keep young brains ticking over. Oh and lots of icky bits, who can possibly resist those icky bits.
