We laughed lots at "Hic!", mainly because we're both so prone to getting hiccups ourselves (mostly as a result of too much giggling or tickling by mummy, who seems to find the sight of Charlotte or me doubled over in hiccuping agony absolutely hilarious for some reason).
The little girl in this book tries just about every method imaginable to get rid of her rotten hiccups.
Some of the ideas sound good on paper, but are practically impossible to carry out.
Others, well let's just say some of the other solutions are definitely things we'd never try in a million years...!
Yikes! This sounds a bit ouchy! Do not try this at home! |
Yikes! See what utter chaos can be caused by a simple case of hiccups? |
It's very easy to see why Anushka Ravishankar is often described as "The Indian Dr Seuss" as this book is so finely tuned, with great illustrations from Christiaine Pieper, that we heartily recommend you pick it up as soon as you can!
Charlotte's best bit: She seemed to be fascinated by the idea of trying out the "mustard cure" - I think she's on her own with that one.
Daddy's favourite bit: A wonderfully funny story, a nice fusion of ideas yet still retaining that cool 'Indian' vibe, albeit with a very western-style illustrative direction applied. Huge fun though, go get a copy NOW!
"Hic!" by Anushka Ravishankar and Christiane Pieper is out now, published by Tara Books (kindly supplied in e-format for review).
