ReadItDaddy's First Book of the Week - Week Ending 16th March 2018: "Anthology of Amazing Women" by Sandra Lawrence and Nathan Collins (Weldon Owen)

In this centenary year where we mark the 100th anniversary of the end of women's suffrage, it's fantastic to see so many books arriving that mark the achievements and soak up the inspiration of amazing women from history - and indeed today!
In fact the fantastic "Anthology of Amazing Women: Trailblazers who dared to be different" does feature a rather awesome mix of contemporary women whose achievements are well worth celebrating, as well as an amazing selection of historical figures who rose high in their chosen professions and pursuits.

As we've seen SO MANY books like this recently, it takes something a wee bit more special to wow us, and "Anthology of Amazing Women" certainly has achieved that. Each of the sections is broken down into various subjects embracing science, literature history entertainment and the arts with some neat 'mini figures of note' before we dive down into the big and proper spreads themselves.

Beyonce. Arguably one of the most influential singers of the past two decades. 

We particularly liked the idea that there would be women that young readers would instantly know and recognise, but also many that they may have heard of in school or at home but would love to find out more about...

Frida Kahlo who overcame a horrific injury to become one of the world's most celebrated artists

Each mini biog is well written, with just enough facts to tempt you into learning more about these incredible women. It goes without saying that the illustrations are absolutely top notch too.

Mary Wollstonecraft, pioneer of women's rights and accomplished writer.

It's the sort of book that will dazzle and inspire in equal measure, and a very well deserved book of the week.

Daddy's favourite biog in the book: Frida Kahlo, who has always been a personal favourite artist with an astonishing life story.
