ReadItDaddy's First Book of the Week - Week Ending 31st August 2018: "I'm the Biggest" by Stephanie Blake (Gecko Press)

It's Book of the Week time! Time for another romp with Simon and his hapless little brother...
Oh dear, things are not going too well for Simon.

In "I'm the Biggest" the older sib is feeling the squeeze when Dad suggests the kids measure themselves to find out who has grown the most.

Simon swiftly finds that Casper (his annoying little stupid baby brother - Simon's words, not ours) has actually grown more inches than he has.

What's even more annoying is that Simon protests so loudly and naughtily that he's sent to his room - so it's time to hatch a plan of revenge.

But being an older sibling isn't easy (believe me, I most certainly know this to be a fact) and soon Simon realises that when a big stinky bully threatens Casper in the playground, it's time to step in and do what big brothers really do.

It's funny reading other reviews of Stephanie Blake's books. Some of the reactions by parents are priceless ("OH MY GOD, I'd have a HEART ATTACK if my precious little darlings behaved like Simon and his brother and friends!") but obviously if you've got a whopping great big sense of humour, and can appreciate that Stephanie's books are actually extremely well observed (particularly if you've got boys at home) then you'll love this as much as we do.

C's best bit: When Simon rather horribly neglects Casper, leaving him at the mercy of a big smelly bully. EEK!

Daddy's favourite bit: We love Stephanie's books, they're like a breath of fresh air to most of the 'strong moral' stuff you find in children's picture books. Simon is just as naughty as ever but does at least come round to be the good guy at the end. Loved it!
