"Oi Duck Billed Platypus" by Kes Gray and Jim Field (Hodder Children's Books)

When a book series steams past 4 (or is it 5?) iterations without barely breaking sweat, you know it's doing something right...
Kes Gray and Jim Field's roaringly hilarious and successful "Oi!" series gets its trickiest challenge yet, in "Oi Duck Billed Platypus"

Frog is back. He's happily sitting on logs, or dogs, or cogs perhaps...but then his job is never ending.

A whole new brace of animals want to know where they can sit.

How about duck-billed platypuses?

And Kookaburras and hippopotamuses and all the other animals with impossible to rhyme with names? You can see the quandary. Thankfully Cat, Dog and Frog are on the case and come up with a brilliant plan to help those animals work out where they should plonk their bottoms.

Kes manages somehow to squeeze rhymes in where braver men would fear to tread, coupling a hilarious tale perfectly with Jim's uproarious illustrations.

I quite like how the PRs for this took the easy way out of providing a badge for us along with our review copy of this book...

I beg your puddin!
(There's not really that many child-friendly things that would rhyme with my daughter's name after all!)

C's best bit: One particular animal won't rest until her quintuple-barrelled name is rhymed. YEEK!

Daddy's favourite bit: Drills aren't particularly comfortable y'know! Owch.

"Oi Duck-Billed Platypus" by Kes Gray and Jim Field is out now, published by Hodder Children's Books (kindly supplied for review).
