"Oscar the Hungry Unicorn" by Lou Carter and Nikki Dyson (Orchard Books)

With possibly the sparkliest cover we've seen in a long time, meet Oscar, a mythical creature with a heck of an appetite!
"Oscar the Hungry Unicorn" by Lou Carter and Nikki Dyson isn't just the cute and cuddly story of a horse with a horn. Far from being the usual depiction of a Unicorn, Oscar is a little on the portly side. He doesn't exactly do a lot of gambolling through elysian fields. But there's one thing Oscar really does love doing.

Eating.

Eating everything, whether it's meant to be eaten or not. So when Oscar literally eats himself out of house and home, it's time to move a bit further afield and see what nosh there is elsewhere in the magical kingdom in which he lives.

Needless to say, an endless appetite doesn't always go down very well with the locals.

Oscar's deapan "Devil may Care" expression is actually very funny indeed!
The pirates don't want Oscar hanging around, nor do the fairies. But at least one person thinks Oscar is the best thing since sliced bread. Princess Oola has been searching for a unicorn FOR EVER!

Full of fun with a totally hilarious and strangely adorable central character, this is brilliant for kids who have a huge appetite for amusing stories.

"Oscar the Hungry Unicorn" by Lou Carter and Nikki Dyson is out now, published by Orchard Books (kindly supplied for review).
