Rob Biddulph is back, and this time he's brought a whole classroom of kids eager to show off their amazing objects in the hilarious "Show and Tell".

A story of one-upmanship, of competitiveness but ultimately of enjoying the simpler things in life sometimes.

When Mr Lumsden urges his class to bring in something for Show and Tell, little does he know he's going to trigger a complete avalanche of amazing things as Class 2L rise to the challenge.

All the kids are out to impress and at first things start out relatively simply, with a humble plant seed.

But soon it turns into a competition to see who can come up with the most spectacular mega-tastic object. Kids wheel in everything from Big Ben to THE ACTUAL MOON!

It all gets a bit crazy for a while, but how on earth will Mr Lumsden possibly choose a winner.

As we all know, teachers are both wise and kind - so we won't spoil what Mr L chooses, but it's a lovely surprise and adds to the rather neat message the book imparts.

We love the way the book just escalates until it gets to quite dangerously crazy levels of the kids out-doing each other!

Yikes, an actual alligator? EEEEEEEEEEP!

With some fantastic little nods and in-jokes here in Rob's trademark illustrative style, it's a fun story that echoes those awesome school days where we'd all do exactly the same as 2L (I think I remember taking a Geode to school once but being completely out-done by a kid who managed to bring in a working steam engine, bah!)

Sum this book up a sentence: A fun romp with a class full of cool kids, and a rather sweet message at the end.

I've always wondered how contemporary artists feel when they get to take on something of a 'dream gig'. The pressure must be immense, to not only do justice to a well-loved character, but to ensure that folk know it's your work as well as the author's.

"Flat Stanley" revives the classic character (who is nearly as old as me, wow, that's old!) created by Jeff Brown, with all new illustrations from a megastar in kidlit, Rob Biddulph.

Rob's trademark bright flat colours work perfectly for the story of a little boy who, one night, ends up the victim of an unfortunate accident. his bedside pinboard falls on him, flattening him out.

When Stanley wakes up the next morning, his little brother realises that he's as flat as a pancake! Eep!

Stanley is determined to make the best of his new-found dimensions, but soon realises that other kids can be pretty cruel if you're 'different' in any way.

But luckily little bro comes to the rescue with the aid of a bike pump!

It's a thoroughly original and hugely inspirational story that heralds from an era when children's picture books were going through as much of a golden age as they are now. The story still feels so fresh and fun, more so than ever now Rob's given it a new lease of life with superb detail and a ton of character.

Sum this book up in a sentence: A fantastic and welcome return to a well-loved children's character brilliantly reinvented for a whole new generation of kids.

Bears are probably the most endearing and enduring characters in children's books - So is there room for one more bear book? Of course there is! Let's meet Rob Biddulph's fantastic bear decathlete in "Grrrrr!"

Oh boy, it's doubling up time again. The first of our Book of the Week nominees for this week has been a riot, and we do love a cheeky penguin / monkey combo!

Sometimes the simplest ideas for a story can evolve, blossom and bloom into books that are absolutely brilliant. It takes a touch of magic though, that almost indefinable 'something' to turn a great idea into a truly awesome one. Such is "Blown Away" by Rob Biddulph.

Including penguins in a book is a great start. Penguins rock. Penguins seemingly have infinite capacity for comic capers and in this story Penguin plus kite equals hilarity. Like a crazy reverse-version of "The Enormous Turnip" Penguin Blue and his three pals are soon dragged off their feet by Penguin Blue's new kite. Other animals spy their plight and try to join in to stop the three hapless normally flightless birds taking off into the skies.

Polar bear, though plump and weighty, isn't up to the job. Nor is Seal or Narwhal. What happens when the friends are whisked off to sunnier climes on the powerful breeze? More to the point, how on earth will they ever get back to the icier climes when they unexpectedly land on a jungle island?

We read this, then re-read it, and again...and again and again until we'd soaked up every single gorgeous and glorious morsel of it, every tiny little detailed tweak of our funny bones that this book so expertly delivers. Rob obviously knows how to write stories to keep his three little girls endlessly amused, and it's great that it also works on my little girl (and me) too!

Fantastic work Rob, cannot wait for more!

Charlotte's best bit: Charlotte became quite obsessed by Monkey and his backstory. Though he doesn't technically appear till half way through the book, he was undoubtedly the star in her eyes (she loves his 'teeth chattering' bit when he gets stranded in the cold after stowing away!)

Daddy's Favourite bit: A simple story, turned into something quite beautifully detailed and hilariously funny. He probably gets this a lot but yep Rob, we were blown away by how great this book is!
