Booky Advent Calendar Day 7 - "Penguin's Big Adventure" by Salina Yoon (Bloomsbury Publishing)

Salina's pint-sized Penguin pal is back in an all new snowy adventure. Let's find out what penguin has been up to?
He's a knitter, a pumpkin pie maker and in his latest story we find Penguin embarking on "Penguin's Big Adventure".

Penguin's curiosity and restless spirit sets off a chain of events that will see Penguin dashing off into the snowy wastes, catching up with all his old friends along the way to fulfil his ultimate ambition - to be the first penguin to reach the North Pole!

(At this point I didn't even have to explain to Charlotte why the old joke about "Why Polar Bears don't eat Penguins - It's because they can't get the wrappers off" being a bit of an oddity as Penguins don't live in the Arctic.

Mentioning Polar Bears here isn't an accident because once Penguin realises his dream and makes it all the way to the North Pole he meets the strangest thing he's ever seen. He's heard a bit about Polar Bears with their big teeth and hungry appetites. Polar Bear is also a bit worried as he's heard all about nippy pecky little penguins but the two soon realise that they can become firm friends - and when the rest of Penguin's clan turn up in a marvellous hot air balloon, the fun really begins!

Salina's books are utterly adorable, and though this isn't really a Christmas book per se, it's perfect for this time of year as Penguin, his new friends and his old ones all get together for a superb story with a very happy warm and cuddly ending, just the way we like 'em!

Charlotte's favourite bit: All penguin's friends are mysteriously busy building....what?

Daddy's favourite bit: A glorious little cuddlesome story about friendships and firsts.
