"Stormy Night" by Salina Yoon (Bloomsbury Publishing)
We love Salina Yoon's stories, full of beautiful little observations and wonderful emotions. We've previously encountered the little bear in this story in Salina's "Found". He's back (with his cuddly little rabbit friend in tow) for a tale that may be all too familiar to parents - what happens when the dark night closes in and your little one just can't settle?
Bear lies awake listening to the howling wind, the beating rain - and no amount of cuddles from his bunny pal are going to settle him at all. So it's up to mum and dad (and floppy the bunny) to point out that storms aren't really as scary as they seem.
Once again it's beautifully observed and told, with those gorgeous illustrations common to Salina's other wonderful books. It's the perfect book for the really windy nights we've had recently, settling your little one down to a (hopefully) blissful and dreamy sleep.
"Stormy Night" by Salina Yoon is released on 15th January 2015 from Bloomsbury Publishing.
Charlotte's best bit: She loved the fact that the story flips things on its head a little, and it's actually mum and dad who want to snuggle up from the storm rather than little bear
Daddy's Favourite bit: Wonderfully told and illustrated, just the thing for those restless nights where the weather beats at your windows and doors!

We love love LOVE penguin books, and Salina Yoon's penguin stories are so fantastically cute that we just can't resist each new tale. We adored "Penguin in Love" so it's time to catch up with our star-crossed pengy couple as they face our favourite season head on. Autumn, ahh the turning leaves and all the awesome ways to celebrate the bountiful harvest that crops up at this time of year. Particularly pumpkins!
Funnily enough, Penguin's little brother is called Pumpkin but he's too young to set sail for the mainland to visit the harvest festival at a local farm. So it's up to Bootsy and Penguin to work out a way that little Pumpkin can be involved once they get back from their trip.
Charlotte absolutely adored Pumpkin, and felt quite sad that the poor little soul got left behind. But was soon cheered up as Penguin and Bootsy plan the perfect surprise for little Pumpkin!
We'll leave you to discover what they plan!
Such an adorable little book that makes us want to track down the rest of the Penguin tales. If like us you love penguins, you'll love reading about Penguin, Bootsy and Pumpkin and the perfect autumn!
Charlotte's best bit: She kept giggling about the penguin who was always falling asleep, and the awesome pumpkin boats the penguins make for their return journey.
Daddy's Favourite bit: The perfect way to start warming up for autumn and the bumper harvest of gorgeous Pumpkins (we love eating pumpkin soup!)

Found by Salina Yoon (Bloomsbury Children's Books)
Salina Yoon's books are always heartwarming and engaging (see "Penguin in Love"). It's really nice to be able to get a sneaky look at her next book, due on 8th May.
"Found" reminded me of an incident when I was a wee whippersnapper, and I'm sure it's something that others can identify with. When I was a lad, I found a corgi Batmobile in the sand while playing on a beach. Someone had lost it - and being brought up right and proper, I tried to find the owner. Just as I'd decided no one was coming back for it and I might be in with a chance of taking it home, another little kid came along looking very sorry for himself - and it turned out to be his.
Long story short, Salina's book features a rather similar tale of a bear who one day finds a bunny while out on his travels. It's the most adorable bunny you could ever lay eyes on. Bear is equally conscientious and starts a huge campaign to reunite the bunny with its owner.
During the course of the next day or two, Bear becomes rather attached to the bunny and really hopes with all his heart that no one claims it. Unfortunately someone does, and bear is extremely tearful about it. But what happens next is quite unexpected...!
Of course you'll have to read the book to find out what happens. This is a really lovely little story that touches your heart, and the ending is a real warm fuzzy moment!
Charlotte's best bit: Charlotte really loved the bunny, and wanted one of her own (I am hopeless at sewing though!)
Daddy's Favourite bit: A heart warming story, and a moral tale that is so lovely to read. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

It's currently chilly enough to be penguin weather. With Valentine's day (which also happens to be International Book Giving day - what an awesome combination) fast approaching, our thoughts turn to love and romance.
Just like the cute little penguin fellah who is the central character in this book. Penguin is a happy little soul, but sometimes as he sits out on his ice floe, he wonders what it would be like to have someone special to cuddle up to.
Penguin one day finds a mysterious bootie on the ice. Who does it belong to? Perhaps it's the love of his life? So penguin sets out to search for the missing bootie's owner. While on his travels he rather generously knits up a storm, keeping the antarctic animals warm and cosy with his woollen crafty skills.
Meanwhile on another ice floe not too far away, a lovely girl penguin is doing the same...are the two ever destined to meet?
A warm, cuddly, fuzzy and lovely little book that'd be perfect to snuggle up with, along with your loved ones. Don't miss Salina's other fab penguin books!
Charlotte's best bit: The penguins knitting their way around the landscape and up mountains.
Daddy's Favourite bit: Wonderful wool-bombing cuddliness! Perfect for a chilly valentine's day!
