ReadItDaddy's Second Picture Book of the Week - Week Ending 12th May 2017 - "Star Wars Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide" compiled by Pablo Hidalgo (Dorling Kindersley)

Our second Picture Book of the Week is a luxurious and sumptuous bible filled with amazing facts and background to the hit movie "Star Wars: Rogue One" in the ultimate visual guide...
Pablo Hidalgo's books are fast becoming essential purchases with each and every new Star Wars Movie arriving since Disney bought Lucasarts a few years ago.

I've only recently seen the movie (having missed it at the cinema, unusually for me) and had been holding off grabbing any of the concept art or process books until I'd watched it.

Now I have, I just had to pick up a copy of "Star Wars Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide" - which again sees Pablo Hidalgo curating an astonishingly thorough book filled to the brim with elements from the film, but also a heck of a lot of awesome extras that really help flesh out the characters, the locations and the amazing technology you'll see on screen.

Jyn Erso - Awesome, kick ass, rebellious. You name it, she's got it.
The character profiles dig into each character's history, and gives you a 'top trumps' style breakdown of their characteristics and motivations.

Weapons tech in particular impresses the socks off me in the newer movies
Richly illustrated with photos and jaw-dropping cutaways, Dorling Kindersley's visual guides are so thorough and convincing, they put just as much effort into providing tons of facts and figures culled from "The Star Wars Bible" as they do into their non-fic books, so expect to be immersed in this one for hours.

Each location gets an extensive profile and backstory and there's an awesome galactic map for real Star Wars fans too
If anything else, the book demonstrates that despite many fans' misgivings, the Star Wars universe is being expanded, paid homage to and developed in a hugely satisfying way under Disney's command, and with steerage from some of the best producers and directors in the business.

This is a sumptuous treat of a book, a big hardback format just begging to be pored over. Amazing stuff.

"Star Wars Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide" by Pablo Hidalgo is out now, published by Dorling Kindersley (self-purchased)
