Ten Fat Sausages by Michelle Robinson and Tor Freeman (Andersen Children's Books)

Two of our absolute children's book HEROES have combined mighty forces for a whole new take on that classic nursery rhyme...sizzling stuff!
We always loved the rhyme "Ten Fat Sausages" (which C would always sing the follow-on line "Sizzling in Japan" as loudly as possible as a wee tiny mite) so it's great to see a hilarious new and altered version of that classic nursery tale brought to life by Michelle Robinson and Tor Freeman.

Things start out with the standard "Ten fat sausages sizzling in the pan" (not Japan!) but no Sausage worth their salt is going to be happy just sitting there cooking away.

As each sausage makes a break for freedom, it's definitely a case of 'out of the frying pan and into the fire' in many cases.

Michelle and Tor obviously had a LOT of fun with this, and I love the complete cheekiness of it. Though we did have to shield our eyes when one Sausage ends up in the blender. ARGH! Anyone reminded of Gremlins at that bit?

Fabulous, fabulous stuff. One thing though, since this one cropped up in our reviews pile I SWEAR the scent of freshly fried sausages has followed me around everywhere.

C's best bit: The two sausages that think they've escaped at the end (but you'll have to tune in to see their terrible, terrible fate!)

Daddy's fave bit: Superb storytelling, hilarious illustrations, it's a banger of a book this one!

"Ten Fat Sausages" by Michelle Robinson and Tor Freeman is out now, published by Andersen Children's Books (kindly supplied for review).
