When is the best time to get your kids interested in history? I'm pretty sure you'll know our answer to this question...
History goes with a child's natural curiosity like Mummies go with Bandages. "So You Think you've got it Bad? A Kid's Life in Ancient Egypt" by Chae Strathie and Marisa Morea is a truly superb book that might give your little ones loads to think about, and engage with them in new and interesting ways.
I remember C being really interested in history from an early age, partly because my wife and I are complete history nerds and loved dragging her around museums and galleries, old houses and sites of historic interest.
We've yet to visit Egypt (it's on the bucket list) but we think books like this are absolutely brilliant for giving a humorous but informative insight into an ancient civilisation.
Kids had a fairly rough deal in Ancient Egypt. As well as the high rates of infant mortality, they definitely didn't get to sit around on iPads all day. They worked very hard as part of a working household, expected to pitch in and lend a hand with most common chores - even some really gross ones (imagine being the official bum-wiper for a VIP? Ewwww!)
Brilliantly written with tons of humour, and utterly fab illustrations, this is a really superb book as a first history title - and it's also fantastic for busy 10 year olds (who already think they know everything there is to know about Ancient Egypt, right C?)
"So You Think You've Got it Bad? A Kid's Life in Ancient Egypt" by Chae Strathie and Marisa Morea is out now, published by Nosy Crow / British Museum (kindly supplied for review).
