Discover Story's "The Big Write – Stories Remixed" festival opens this week. Starting on 6th March and running till the 16th, you can join in with a fantastic set of events during March.
The festival includes a spectacular programme for all ages with authors, illustrators, visual artists, popstars and comic makers joining us for all that is best and brilliant about writing and stories.
Some of the big names in this year’s guest events include Korky Paul (Winnie the Witch), Axel Scheffler (The Gruffalo), Nadia Shireen (Good Little Wolf), John Hegley (I am a Poetato), Cerrie Burnell (CBeebies) and Guy Parker–Rees (Giraffes Can’t Dance).
You can also create a pop song with Boogaloo Stu and enjoy a pop gig with Catherine Bennett Live!

Discover Story opens new "Secret Agent" themed interactive exhibition on February 15th 2014.

Just in time for the half-term holidays, Discover Story unveils its new interactive exhibition themed around secret agents and spies.
Excitement and adventure abound on Saturday February 15th 2014 as the exhibition opens with a free day launching the centre’s spring programme of snooping and sleuthing and top secret activities, not to mention a visit from Ruby Redfort and Charlie and Lola author Lauren Child.
Discover Children’s Story Centre’s exhibitions have been nominated for the 2012 European Museum Academy International Children’s Museum Award. Secret Agents follows hot on the heels of their blockbuster exhibition Journey to Space with award winning illustrator Jim Field and sold out collaboration with Punchdrunk Enrichment, The House Where Winter Lives.
Discover commissioned illustrator Peter Mac and hollywood screenwriter and author of the new Tarzan books Andy Briggs to create the exhibition. Children aged 6+ will be briefed on the mission at hand, to stop the evil Dr.Iscove from stealing the pocket money of everyone on the planet. Children will attend an exclusive Secret Agent training academy, to try and stop the villain in his tracks. They will master surveillance techniques, unlock codes, dodge laser beams, learn how to make themselves invisible and all the special skills to complete their mission.
Sarah Dance, Discover’s Interim Chief Executive said, ‘This brilliant experience for children, it blends together excellence in art, design and storytelling to inspire children to make up incredible stories. It’s been a pleasure for us to work with such talented artists as Peter Mac and Andy Briggs.’
Exhibition illustrator Peter Mac said, ‘The project for the Discover Centre has been a very exciting challenge and it's great to be part of a team and to work on a very special learning space for young people.’
The exhibition’s writer Andy Briggs said ‘Deep in the basement of the Discover Centre lies the greatest adventure in London - and I am proud to have worked with the Discover Centre to bring it to life.’
Secret Agents will be accessible to budding spies everywhere from 15 February 2014.

This fabulous venue has now released details of their Spring Events programme, and it's a doozy.
For starters, there's the launch of our new interactive family exhibition Secret Agents, for children ages 6+, with a special visit from Ruby Redfort and Clarice Bean author, Lauren Child (15 Feb).
There's a February Half Term jam packed with story adventures as well as visits from author/illustrators Catalina Echeverri (Lion and Mouse) and Stephanie Blake (Poo Bum)

Venues include, Discover Children’s Story Centre, Southbank Centre, Rich Mix, Museum of London, Unicorn Theatre and the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education.

On Sat 5th October 2013 and Sun 6 October 2013, you'll be able to join in with a fabulous programme of new work by some of the UK’s top creators of experiences for children.
Events include award-winning theatre company Inspector Sands, a unique twist on the classic tale The Ugly Duckling by immersive theatre artist Kirsty Harris and a remixed version of The Tortoise and the Hare by hip hop DJ and spoken word artist, Charlie Dark.
It promises to be a fun-packed weekend and what better way to celebrate than discovering stories at Discover for yourself!

After a crack-o-dawn start, team ReadItDaddy bumped on a very bumpy bus to That There London and to Stratford to meet the others. Amazingly, with good fortune (and some rather good spotting from Ali, the strolling mum) we all met up as intended and after a spot of lunch, headed off to Discover Story.
At the moment, this imaginative booktastic venue is space themed, but first we thought we'd explore upstairs and check out the various cool areas to play and run around in (and boy, can those kids run around - faster than my camera could track them anyway!)
Soon we headed downstairs into Discover's fabulous "Space Zone" for a journey to the stars. The kids loved donning their special space jackets, and exploring the alien planets and craters of the zone before taking part in a more interactive 'workshop' (with lots of blasting off and counting down!)

We were also at Discover on a special mission, to see a living legend in children's books in action.
Alex T Smith, creator of the fabulous "Claude" series of children's books gave a special talk and also let us into a few rather brilliant secrets (in particular, a sneaky peek at Claude 6 - "Claude Hits the Slopes" which NO ONE ELSE had seen before the day, not even Alex's own nephews!)

Alex also signed our copy of "Claude in the Spotlight" and we even got to meet the REAL Sir Bobblysocks (sadly, missing his fabulous glasses alas).
It was absolutely lovely to meet the other bloggers (I was so nervous I think I babbled and mumbled a lot), and it was really brilliant that all our children had a ton of fun, and got on wonderfully together (listening to their conversations and hearing their fantastic imaginations at play was truly awesome).
So watch out world, we'll definitely be doing it again soon!
