We've been really lucky lately as we've had the chance to look at a whole stack of amazing children's atlases and map books. Maggi Li's "Big City Explorer - Where can I go?" is another fantastic globe-trotting book which gets things off to a jet-setting start with the inclusion of a compass, nestling in the cover (I tried to steer Charlotte away from trying to pry the compass out of the book, it looked like it might actually damage the cover so we left it where it was!)

Diving in on our first travel adventure, we flicked through the huge and gloriously illustrated double spreads of each of the cities featured from around the world. Stopping off for Sushi in Tokyo, or taking in the grand spectacle of the Amphitheatre in Rome, this book shows you the sights and history of some of the world's best loved cities.

We absolutely loved the fact that each page tells you which direction to set your compass to in order to travel to the next city. In conjunction with a world map, we were soon feeling like globetrotting gadabouts.

Packed with amazing facts and figures about each city, and a brilliant way to get kids interested in geography and different cultures around the world, Big City Explorer is a big and satisfying book!

Charlotte's best bit: Charlotte has now compiled a list of all the places she wants to visit. I think we'll have to break the piggy bank!

Daddy's Favourite bit: A fantastic book that really encourages exploration and engagement. Absolutely love the genius idea of including a compass too!
