ReadItDaddy's Book of the Week - Week Ending 24th June 2016 - "Under Earth, Under Water" by Aleksandra Mizielinski and Daniel Mizielinski (Templar Publishing)

The fabulous duo behind the award-winning and truly glorious "Maps" books have once again come up trumps. Our book of the week this week is "Under Earth, Under Water" by Aleksandra Mizielinski and Daniel Mizielinski.
When I was a kid, the books that always outlasted all the others were the books chock full of amazing facts and figures about the very planet we live on. I was a bit of a geography / geology nut, and loved reading huge thick encyclopaedias (I was lucky enough to have access to an entire set of the Encyclopaedia Britannica and voraciously read them from cover to cover - weird kid, right?)

Children today may have an app for everything, and the internet on tap but it's actually quite soothing to note that there are still stunning books out there that serve up astonishing facts in gloriously innovative ways.

Daniel and Aleksandra are well known for producing the most intricately detailed books. Their "Maps" series have deservedly won tons of awards and now they've turned their attention to the world around us once more for a dip under the surface of the oceans, and a dig under the earth.

Yummy yummy vegetables and gorgeous plants. Where do they come from? Under the earth of course!
As you'd expect, the book is absolutely gorgeous to look at, splitting each of the topics by being reversible and so you can start with your exploration under the earth, or dive straight in to explore under the sea.

Each page is chock full of glorious detail and fascinating facts, guaranteeing that you'll be wrapped up in this book and completely absorbed by it for AGES.

Find out all about long-dead dinosaurs by digging!
We're thoroughly impressed by this, particularly the fact that the book doesn't try and water down its topics, presenting facts in a way that will cover quite a wide age range - great for little ones but equally great for children Charlotte's age who are just beginning to cover geography and ecology in more detail at school.

Want to know what happens when you flush the loo? Wonder no more!
Thoroughly recommended!

Charlotte's favourite bit: Exploring the bizarre creatures that live at the deepest depths of the ocean.

Daddy's favourite bit: A stunning, stunning book - just the ticket for inquisitive curious kids who love a big book full of facts and glorious illustrations.
