ReaditDaddy's First Book of the Week - Week Ending 2nd September 2016 - "Ada Twist, Scientist" by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts (Abrams Books)

Our First Book of the Week this week is one we've been going round the twist in anticipation about. It's the utterly wonderful "Ada Twist, Scientist"
Rosie Revere showed us that mighty girls could be engineers. Iggy Peck showed us that mighty boys could dream up wonderful constructions as architects and now we have an even more wonderful third book in the series that made us dance from foot to foot with joy.

"Ada Twist, Scientist" by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts once again introduces a fantastic character who just needs a prod in the right direction to believe in herself, to follow her dreams and put that busy brain of hers to work! Ada Twist didn't even speak a word until she was three, but once she spoke she was full of amazing ideas. Her analytical brain gets to work trying to solve the whys, the hows and the wherefores of how things work, why they do what they do and most importantly to solve the great mystery occupying young Ada. What on EARTH is making that disgusting pong?! GAH!

Ada's scientific experiments soon lead to trouble but thanks to two adoring parents who understand the need to nurture her inquisitive nature, and an older brother who MAY know more about the stink than he's letting on (this was the bit that had Charlotte giggling the most!), we watch in awe as Ada's busy brain works overtime to solve the big mystery.

Brilliant rhymes and fabulous artwork are the trademark of this series and it's always great to spot Ada's classmates (and in fact if you go back to the older books, Ada herself) crossing over in the three titles.

A hugely inspirational book, ticking all the right boxes for our own science-obsessed mighty girl who would LOVE a best friend like Ada.

Charlotte's best bit: Ada's crazy smell-experiment contraption. Ew, not sure WE'D want to wear a mask that fed us stinky sock smells!

Daddy's favourite bit: As brilliant and inspirational as the other titles in Andrea and David's series, and a book destined to be talked about and adored far and wide. Brilliant!
