Don't be fooled by the awesome cover here, this one's strictly for YA and Grownups so kids, look away now...!(Psst, are they gone? Stuck in front of CBBC? Yes? Awesome, let's continue!)
Imagine if you were lucky enough to be A) one of the most talented female comic book writers or artists in the world and B) were invited to "Jam" alongside your compadres on a collaborative project full of awesome originality and more than a hint of sauce.
That's the basic idea behind "Comic Book Slumber Party" and the fantastic "Deep Space Canine".
Following the adventures of canine spacegoing dropkick Commander Greasy and her ever-present lightbulb-boobied robot companion, it's a not-quite-five-year-mission kicking off with the most important quest known to canine-kind. Locating the commander's favourite pair of pants.
Don't mock, this is important stuff - for how can you command the spaceways in less than comfortable undercrackers?
Hannah, Katriona, Lucy, Lize, Honey, Becca, Alice, Beth and Jenn (phew!) collaborate and take turns on chronicling the adventures of the good commander, in a wild and trippy adventure...
Things go slightly awry as the dark universe leaks into our own. Ayieee! |
What in the name of...you just came into our universe to steal my PANTS? |
I can only imagine how much fun the ladies had putting this together, and it's the sort of comic project I would love to see happen a lot more. It's a brilliant showcase for their unique talents, and a thoroughly rip-roaring entertaining read. As we said at the top of the review though, this is strictly for YA / Grownups as there's plenty of sauce and strong language, so don't be lulled into handing this over to little Timmy and Jilly unless they're, like, 15 or somethin'
