ReadItDaddy's First Picture Book of the Week - Week Ending 17th November 2017 - "50 Things You Should Know About the Vikings" by Philip Parker and Shane Mcleod (QED Publishing)

We're absolutely delighted to be able to pick a superb non-fiction "Book of the Week" this week, with an addition to the superb "50 things you should know" series...
"50 Things You Should Know About the Vikings" by Philip Parker and Shane McLeod is a stunning addition to the series, covering a period in history when Vikings began to set sail and conquer the ancient world.

We're huge fans of this series, and this new book delves right into the heart of the subject, dishing up tons of amazing facts and historical timelines for the Viking period, detailing famous figures of the time, and describing what legacy was left by Vikings as they left their mark in various countries and continents as they invaded.

Though often portrayed as violent and bloodthirsty marauders (which, alas, has more than a ring of truth to it when you start reading about Viking warriors and berserkers!) they had an amazing culture, developing stunning craft and metalwork, amazing weapons, ocean-spanning ships and an astonishing wealth of mythology which is just as popular today in modern times as it was back when Vikings stomped the earth.

Viking Longships, a terrifying sight as Viking invaders approached the land. Run and hide!
With superbly clear layouts, stunning illustrations and photo work, and a huge wealth of information to use as a leaping off point for class and home projects on Vikings, this truly is a brilliant little book.

No holding this fella back. Pity the same couldn't be said for the tide!
"50 Things You Should Know About the Vikings" by Philip Parker and Shane McLeod is out now, published by QED (kindly supplied for review).
