We absolutely cannot resist a fantastic dreamy story about dragons, so our first Picture Book of the Week this week is a superb example that (literally) leaps off the page at you!Zanna Davidson and Seo Kim's fantastic "One Moonlit Night" really takes storytelling into another dimension.
We've seen many innovative approaches to pop-up books, but sometimes the sheer beauty of a book that's perfectly engineered so that it just works so well really is a breathtaking sight to behold.
Susannah (Zanna) tells a gentle bedtime story of adventure as a little girl embarks on a journey across dark seas in her tiny and adorable boat.
There's adventure ahead - here be dragons, and the girl's amazing nocturnal quest becomes even more exciting on the mysterious island of dragons.
This book is absolutely drop dead gorgeous...
So gorgeous, so charming, so go out and buy it right this second! |
Yikes! Caught between a whale and a dragon! |
There's tension and excitement as the story takes a perilous turn, but all will be well by bedtime, trust us!
What's better than bobbing along in a boat? Flying on the back of a fiery dragon. Ask Daenerys! |
It's that most wondrous thing, a book that keeps the storyline simple on purpose to let your imagination fly, aided with some of the most amazing pop-up scenes we've ever seen in a children's picture book.
It's utterly beautiful - one you'll feel like finding some display space for on your shelves so you can leave it propped open on particular scenes.
Charlotte's best bit: The climactic fight with the monsters! A superb scene!
Daddy's favourite bit: A real WOW of a book, one of the most beautiful pop up books we've ever seen in fact. Truly a treasure.
"One Moonlit Night" by Zanna Davidson and Seo Kim is out now, published by Templar Publishing (kindly supplied for review).
