Booky Advent Calendar 2017 Day 3: "One Christmas Wish" by Katherine Rundell and Emily Sutton (Bloomsbury Publishing)

Day 3 of our Booky Advent Calendar takes a look at a book that instantly feels like it's destined to become a well-loved Festive classic...
Katherine Rundell's beautiful "One Christmas Wish" with gorgeous illustrations by Emily Sutton really does feel like the sort of books that those of us in the older generation might remember seeing around at Christmas when we were kids (you know, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and the internet was the stuff of a madman's dream).

The story begins one Christmas Eve as little Theo - left at home with a babysitter - sees an odd-looking star out of his window and decides to make a wish.

Theo wishes hard, eyes tightly closed. He wishes that he had some friends to keep him company.

There's a touch of christmas magic in the air as Christmas decorations begin to disentangle themselves from the tree behind him, ready to wreak a little havoc! Yikes! But fear not, young Theo, help is at hand as the toys pitch in to put an end to the mischief!

If you're looking for a Christmas book to make your spine tingle, with tons and tons of wonderful christmas atmosphere, this is definitely one for the top of your christmas list.

"One Christmas Wish" by Katherine Rundell and Emily Sutton is out now, published by Bloomsbury Children's Books (kindly supplied for review).
