"They Say Blue" by Jillian Tamaki (Abrams Books for Young Readers)

We love illustrator Jillian Tamaki's work, so it's lovely to see her first solo picture book, a glorious celebration of colour...
"They Say Blue" by Jillian Tamaki takes us on a whirlwind energetic journey with a youngster who is full of inquisitive energy and verve.

As the young girl examines the colors in the world around her, her imagination is stimulated and she starts to think about why certain things are certain colours, and what it means to her.

Egg yolks are sunny orange as expected, yet water cupped in her hands isn’t blue like they say.

But maybe a blue whale is blue. She doesn’t know, she hasn’t seen one.

This book is gloriously playful, perfectly capturing the way kids theorise and come up with their own 'reasons' for things being as they are, and sums up that brilliant curiosity kids have (and some lucky adults retain into their more advanced years too, ahem!)

"They Say Blue" by Jillian Tamaki is out now, published by Abrams Young Readers (kindly supplied for review).
