ReadItDaddy's Picture Book of the Week - Week Ending 13th July 2018 - "Sweep" by Louise Greig and Julia Sarda (Egmont) @EgmontUK

We're months away from our favourite season, in either direction but we still love the idea of swooshing through crackling brown leaves in the Autumn...
Louise Greig's glorious "Sweep" with fantastic illustrations by blog favourite Julia Sarda is arriving at the end of the month and we wanted to get in early with a Book of the Week nomination for this awesome story.

It's not actually about leaves, or Autumn really but the little boy in the story isn't happy - and soon finds that his mood takes on a huge all-encompassing form.

Ed is in a bad mood and though his mood starts small, it soon begins to engulf everything - even the city which Ed lives in, causing chaos and disruption at every turn.

Ed’s bad mood soon grows and grows, it sweeps over him like a raging storm. And as it does he begins to sweep up everything in his path.

Will Ed realise what he has to do in order to restore calm and balance to his world before it's too late?

It's so aptly named this, a story that sweeps over you like a gentle breeze at first before picking up speed like a stormy wind. Louise's text is sparse, and yet gorgeous.

Julia ("The Liszts") Sarda is an amazing artist whose work we never tire of (we still hold out a smidge of hope that one day someone will give her a gig illustrating an Addams Family children's book - c'mon make it happen!).

Here though her scenes and characters are utterly beautiful (and we really love Ed's coat as he cuts a dash with his broom through the city).

Hypnotically beautiful.

"Sweep" by Louise Greig and Julia Sarda is released on 27th July 2018, published by Egmont (kindly supplied for review).
