"Daddy Hairdo" by Francis Martin and Claire Powell (Simon and Schuster Children's Books)

Here's a fun and hilarious jab at dads (like me) who might have, long ago, kissed their luscious locks goodbye...
In "Daddy Hairdo" there are so many moments that had me nodding furiously along with the story text.

It begins with Amy. Amy has a LOT of hair - and at the time she was born so did her dad, but swiftly Amy ended up with her hair growing longer, and longer, and LONGER while poor dad's bonce got shinier, and shinier and shinier until Amy's hair was quite spectacularly long and terribly unmanageable.

Dad pitches in as best he can, but as any dad will know when left on their own with the kids (particularly us baldies), getting kids hair to resemble anything but a crow's nest isn't an easy task - particularly for school.

And so Dad has to become a bit of a hairdressing expert - and comes up with the most amazing hairdos ever. The Ice Cream-shaped hairdo? No problem. A triple beehive? Easy peasy!

Dad's reputation grows far and wide but even though he is extremely creative (has anyone noticed how most of the best male hairdressers are as bald as a ballerina's armpit btw?) Amy still isn't happy - her sophisticated up-dos aren't exactly compatible with a busy kid's life (you ever tried fitting a triple beehive through the doorway of a shop? Not easy!)

So that fateful day arrives, and it's time for a trim. I don't know about you but I was heartbroken the first time my daughter asked for her luxurious long locks to be chopped off short but can definitely understand why sometimes it's the only way.

A great dad and daughter book, just missed out a smidge on Father's Day back in June but line it up for next year or for a dad christmas pressie par excellence!

C's best bit: Ice Cream Hair! YUM!

Daddy's favourite bit: Rather too many moments of nodding from me, my locks were long gone by my 20th birthday though, long time before C came along (and I'm sure if I had any hair left I'd have stressed it all out ages ago!)

"Daddy Hairdo" by Francis Martin and Claire Powell is out now, published by Simon and Schuster Children's Books (kindly supplied for review).
