"Rosie is my Best Friend" by Ali Pye (Simon and Schuster Children's Books)

Dog lover? Completely won over by cute little poochies? Look no further, your dream picture book is here...!
C got very excited by the fact that her best friend's dog is called Rosie - So "Rosie is my Best Friend" by Ali Pye was instantly appealing. Won over by the bold cover art too, it was time to dive in to see if Ali could provide more than just a shaggy dog tale for littlies who love all things canine.

"Rosie is my Best Friend" is indeed the tale of a little dog named Rosie, and a little girl who loves her for all her foibles.

Let's face it, dogs aren't perfect. They can make a mess in an empty room. Sometimes they can be a bit 'on the nose' and sometimes their attempts to help don't always quite go as planned. But they are loyal, loving, friendly and intelligent so what's not to love?

This panel brilliantly sums up every experience I've ever had with trying to train a dog
There are so many giggles throughout the book, Ali obviously either has dogs or knows exactly what makes dogs tick - as this is so beautifully and accurately observed throughout.

Bath time and snuggles!
One thing worthy of note in this book was that the little girl seemed to be an only child - and there's a huge huge need for books that feature only children (in our opinion anyway, as C is one and I'm sure there are many, many others out there whose best 'friend' is the family pet).

Tidying the house, Rosie style!
This is another brilliant book for early years kids who love animals (particularly dogs) and love a story that will make them giggle along with Rosie's antics.

Sum this book up in a sentence: Brilliantly observed doggy antics, and a lovely little story that proves dogs aren't just man's best friend, they're pretty good pals for kids too!

"Rosie is my Best Friend" by Ali Pye is out now, published by Simon and Schuster Children's Books (kindly supplied for review).
