Here's another tempting trio of fantastic books from one of our favourite early years publishers so let's dive straight into our book bag and take a look.
Starting with "Keith Among the Pigeons" by Katie Brosnan, a brilliant little story about a very special cat.
Keith doesn't like chasing pigeons, he'd much rather just watch them all day, and desperately dreams of what it would be like to actually BE one of them and join them high up in their favourite tree.
The other cats think Keith is a bit weird, but Keith is happy - and sometimes being happy with who you are is the most important thing of all.
We love the simple story and gorgeous painterly illustrations in this one, plus cat books are always a complete win with us.
A lovely moggy tale with a gentle moral tucked into the folds, "Keith Among the Pigeons" by Katie Brosnan is out now, published by Child's Play.
If cats aren't really your thing, and you prefer stories about adorable dogs, meet "Milo and Monty" by Roxana De Rond.
Milo and Monty are best friends, but are very different dogs indeed.
Sky is one very lucky little girl. She lives, plays and learns in a circus and when she's not performing, she even dreams about what she's going to do next in her fabulous circus act!

Milo and Monty are best friends, but are very different dogs indeed.
Monty enjoys hugs and noisy playtimes, but Milo prefers to avoid people and hide in a cosy, quiet space.
One day, during a family reunion, Milo finds cousin Henry is hiding in his special space.
Like Milo, Henry finds hugs uncomfortable, dislikes loud noises, and has a favourite toy that he takes everywhere.
Another superb little book with a simple but effective message this one, staving off the cold days by making us wish for long hot lazy summers days going out for walks with a favourite pooch.
A heartwarming story about family and the small changes we can make to accommodate the needs of others.
"Milo and Monty" by Roxana De Rond is out now, published by Child's Play.
Last but not least, it's the noise and the bombastic spectacle of the big top in "Circus Girl" by Jana Novotny Hunter and Joaquin Camp.
In this superb new picture book, the excitement of the circus influences every aspect of Sky's life, but will she realise that there may be more to life than just the excitement and adventure within the circus ring?
Simple effective illustrations underpin a positive message about being your best self, "Circus Girl" by Jana Novotny Hunter and Joaquin Camp is out now, published by Child's Play (all books kindly supplied for review).

Four fabulous new story books to get your school year off to a flying start with Child's Play Publishing
We're taking a look at four new brilliant titles from an innovative publisher who has been producing some of the best kids books out there for a long time. Don't let that fool you though, their publications are always of the highest quality and we've really been enjoying this selection of stories.
So let's start with something magical! "Astrid and the Sky Calf" by Rosie Faragher is a heartwarming tale of a very special hospital.
Doctor Astrid is a doctor at The Hospital for Magical Beasts but when a sky calf visits the Hospital out of the blue, Dr Astrid tries to diagnose the newcomer and apply her usual treatments.
The problem is, the poor patient isn't responding to the usual treatments and Dr Astrid wonders if her skills are up to muster. How can Astrid nurse the sky calf back to full health?
A beautiful and sensitive story about how empathy and compassion can help make a real difference, with gorgeous scribbly art from Rosie.
"Astrid and the Sky Calf" by Rosie Faragher is out now, published by Child's Play.
Next, a brilliant story that dips into Traveller culture and their rich tradition of folk tales and legends.
"The Lost Homework" by Richard O'Neill and Kirsti Beautyman begins with the story of a young boy in the traveller community.
Sonny devotes his weekend to helping his neighbours and fellow Travellers with a variety of tasks. He uses many skills, from calculating the amount of fuel needed for a journey, to restoring a caravan.
In fact, the only thing he doesn’t do over the weekend is his homework – his workbook is missing!
What will his teacher say?
This new picture book in the traveller's tales series champions the idea that many skills learned at home are as important as those learned at school. With truly gorgeous artwork from Kirsti, it's a fantastic little moral tale with a huge heart and sense of community.
"The Lost Homework" by Richard O'Neill and Kirsti Beautyman is out now, published by Child's Play.
Next up, with perfect timing, a brilliant waggy tale about starting a new school.
"A New School for Charlie" isn't about a little girl or boy, but a dog - and a rather excitable dog at that.
Charlie can't wait to start his first day at a new school, but when he gets there, he finds it full of cats!
Calamity!!!
The difference is quite a shock for Charlie, who isn t sure how to cope. How can he make new friends and fit in amongst all those moody felines?
Things look a bit wobbly for a while but Charlie remembers one thing - his love of books - and soon discovers that his new school has a library. If the answer can't be found in books, then it can't be found anywhere!
A fab book to ease kids into their new school year, with a bouncy and effervescent lead character.
"A New School for Charlie" by Courtney Dicmas is out now, published by Child's Play.
Last but not least, a strange and surreal tale but with a whomping great big positive message delivered in a fun and original way.
"The Things" by Petronela Dostalova begins with just one thing in fact, a thing who has a very particular way of living, a (slightly prickly) best friend, and plenty of fun despite its rather simple life.
Thing adores his friends, Cactus and Moose the Shadow Puppet. But one day Thing wakes up to find there's another thing nearby.
Worse still, Thing discovers that his friend Moose the Shadow Puppet has suddenly disappeared. The chief suspect is the other thing but will the two work out what has happened if they work together as friends?
It's definitely a quirky story but the message of friendship and tolerance is strong, and kids will love the sheer fun in this one.
"The Things" by Petronela Dostalova is out now, published by Child's Play.

Child's Play always have an eye for fabulous books for early years and they're getting 2017 off to a very busy start with two brand new books for younger children.
In "My Tail's Not Tired" by Jana Novotny Hunter and Paula Bowles, you'll meet the most mischievous and adorable little monster ever!
Little Monster has a lot of energy and every single part of her body likes to move in different ways.
Children will love joining in as Big Monster and Little Monster wiggle and wriggle their way through the day, with a tail that won't stop waving to and fro, eyes that won't close, legs and feet that love to jump and bound, and of course a wiggly monster bottom!
But what happens when it's time for bed? Will Little Monster ever settle? Poor Big Monster is getting worn out!
A fabulous book for children to join in the actions with, and a fun read-aloud story.
"My Tail's Not Tired" by Jana Novotny Hunter and Paula Bowles is out now, published by Child's Play.
We also loved "Quiet!" by Kate Alizadeh. It's a busy noisy house and one little girl can hear all the noises happening all around her.
Take a moment or two out of your busy day to stop, listen and hear all the sounds that the house makes. Is that the fridge whirring? Are the radiators singing?

The text and sensory clues to be found in this enchanting, inclusive picture book allow us to experience our home through its many noises. Auditory landmarks help all children to become familiar with daily routines, and can be particularly important to those who are blind or partially sighted.
It's also another wonderful "join-in" book and younger children will love making all the noises in the book themselves.

First is "Yokki and the Parno Gry" by Richard O'Neill, Katherine Quarmby and Marieke Nelissen. A traditional Romani folk tale is brought to stunning life in this engaging children's picture book.
A traveller family experience the highs and lows of life on the road along with Yokki, a young boy set to change their fortunes forever. Every night he tells tales of an amazing and magical white horse, a mythical creature that bestows good fortune on those who need it most, arriving in their darkest hour. As the family's travels continue, Yokki regales them with fantastical stories but can there really be a whiff of truth to Yokki's tales? As their fortunes change, Yokki's stories are needed more than ever. Will the Parno Gry really come to save them from despair?
This is a hugely original and engaging story introducing characters and stories from other cultures in an engaging and delightful way. "Yokki and the Parno Gry" is published by Child's Play on 1st August 2016.
Sticking with traditional tales, here's another to dazzle and delight...
Once again by Richard O'Neill and Katherine Quarmby, and this time illustrated by Hannah Tolson, meet "Ossiri and the Bala Mengro", an original tale of mystery, music and monsters. Young Ossiri creates a flute from a piece of willow and a stack of recycled objects, but it sounds truly awful! None of her family can stand the noise so Ossiri is banished to practice her tuneless musical skills a long way off from their camp. Ignoring warnings about the ogre that lives in the hills, Ossiri unwittingly awakens the huge and fearsome beast! Oh no!
Amazingly, the Ogre wants her to continue playing and soon they form a beautiful friendship signalling a change in Ossiri's fortunes as Ossiri and the Bala Mengro discover the delights and joys of music and dance. The Bala Mengro shares his fortune with Ossiri but avaricious eyes plan to steal her instrument and grab some of that good fortune to boot! Will the dastardly plans of a stranger see Ossiri left without her treasured musical instrument and her new found friend?
A truly stunning and immersive story that's sure to win you over. "Ossiri and the Bala Mengro" is also released by Child's Play on 1st August 2016.

Our final book in our Child's Play roundup is actually our favourite of the three, but we're suckers for utterly cute animals.
In "Mayday Mouse" by Sebastian Braun, a tiny sailor mouse sets sail on the ocean deep in her adorable little craft. Made from a cocktail stick, half a walnut shell and a hankie for a sail, Captain Mouse sets off on a mission to deliver a delicious gift to her adoring brother.
Captain Mouse heeds the warnings about the choppy waves and harsh winds, and all too soon finds herself marooned on a tiny spit of sand, the waves lapping at her heels.
But thankfully Captain Mouse has some truly awesome friends who leap to her aid, bringing her all the materials she'll need to build another boat and finish her ocean-going quest to find her brother.
We loved this book so much that it inspired us to make our own little cork boat like Captain Mouse's - so maybe that's something you'd love to try for yourself too! "Mayday Mouse" was released on 8th June 2016 from Child's Play.
