Join us for another journey of artistic discovery with Laurence Anholt's brilliant "Anholt's Artists" series, this time with a master of colour - Henri Matisse...
We're delighted to see a fabulous reprint of this particular "Anholt's Artists" title, exploring the life and work of a true master of colour and composition. Exploring Matisse's later life here in this book, Laurence Anholt pays homage to an artist who was hugely influential and whose work was a glorious and colourful inspiration to many artists who followed.
Here we learn a little more about Matisse's periods of ill health, and how art helped him with his convalescence in the presence of a young girl, Monique Bourgeois - herself an amateur artist - who learned many useful techniques from Matisse before becoming a Dominican Nun.
Matisse collaborated with and befriended many other artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Laurence Anholt introduces us to some of Matisse's finest works, and once again it's fantastic to see a book series that allows children to learn about the great masters of yore and see some of their most important paintings and sculptures. A gorgeous addition to the "Anholt's Artists" range and a fascinating slice of Matisse's life explored here.
Charlotte's Favourite Bit: Matisse's paintings inspired by Monique and his wonderful use of colours.
Daddy's Favourite Bit: An astonishing artist with a truly fascinating life story, possibly our favourite addition to the "Anholt's Artists" range yet!
