ReadItDaddy's First Book(s) of the Week - Week Ending 25th November 2016 - "Great Grammar Book" and "Terrific Times Tables Book" by Kate Petty and Jennie Maizels (Walker Books)

Our first Book(s) of the week are a pair of utterly awesome children's books that deal with tricky "School" subjects in a brilliantly fun and engaging way...
Meet "The Great Grammar Book" and the "Terrific Times Tables Book" by Kate Petty and Jennie Maizels. It may sound a bit unusual to pick two children's books based on grammar and mathematics as our books of the week but if there's one thing parents will definitely know, it's that every single little bit of help that you can give your children with grammar and multiplication is worth its weight in gold.

So it is with these two books, that 'gamify' the usually painful (and sometimes brain-achingly boring) process of learning your times tables and grammar  skills.

With a fizz of colour, a veritable explosion of busy and detailed illustration, the book covers draw your children straight into fabulous page spreads full of interactive elements.

With some fantastic paper engineering, both books (and their chaotic collection of cool characters designed to help little ones get a flying start with multiplication and grammar) feature tons of lift-the-flap items to develop curiosity, enthusiasm and of course to help kids see that learning can be a whole lot of fun.

Riotous colourful illustrations are marvellous and kid-friendly, the books are sensitively written so that they don't come across as 'schooly' in any way. Perfect, in fact, as an inroad to things children will study further in school but giving them a great boost at home too.

Charlotte's favourite bit: Magical characters that help children learn through play and some really fab interactive elements and illustrations to really draw her in.

Daddy's favourite bit: Making learning fun is hugely important when children feel increasingly under pressure in early years to learn their times tables and perfect their grammar skills. These two books are fabulous in every way, making a great starting point for children to begin their learning journey with a good solid dose of fun.
