Our Chapter Book of the Week dropped like a bomb on Charlotte's little world earlier in the week. It's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway" by Jeff Kinney...
Interestingly enough, Charlotte seems to love her nerds. Currently a huge fan of the "Dork Diaries" series, she's always given Jeff Kinney's nerdy anti-hero Greg Heffley the cold shoulder.

We were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to read an early copy of Jeff Kinney's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway" and we jumped at the chance. This is, without doubt, one of the book events of the year for kids Charlotte's age with the series selling like hot cakes every time a new book arrives.

So here we are at Book 12, and Greg is making a run for it with his family for the holiday season.

With the cold weather setting in and the stress of the Christmas holiday approaching (we know the feeling only too well), the frazzled Heffleys decide to escape to a tropical island resort for some much-needed rest and relaxation. 

It sounds like paradise - but as we all know from those last minute getaways to sunnier climes, things have a habit of going slightly awry, even if you're not the biggest geek on the planet. There's a nasty case of sun poisoning, dodgy tummies and poisonous wildlife to put up with - and that's just the start of the Heffley's vacation woes. 

Sometimes you just feel like you shouldn't have bothered getting out of bed in the morning!

Charlotte took to this series like a duck to water, and is now clamouring for the rest of the books in the series (methinks a trip to the local library should hopefully reveal a few more). 

When the book arrived she settled herself down for the evening, clad in her awesome cloud-covered dressing gown...

Shhh! I'm reading. Keep it down, Daddy!
...and the next morning she could barely pause for long enough to scoff down her breakfast...

Careful you don't get choco cereal down your nice new dressing gown, young lady!
So I'd chalk that up as a bit of a hit, wouldn't you?
