ReadItDaddy's Second Picture Book of the Week - Week Ending 1st December 2017 - "Dinosaurium (Welcome to the Museum Series)" by Lily Murray and Chris Wormell (Big Picture Press)

Our second Picture Book of the Week is a colossus, a huge book filled with some of the largest creatures to ever stalk the earth. We're joining the blog tour for Dinosaurium!
We never cease to be amazed by just how fantastic Big Picture Press books are, and how they manage to cram so much greatness into their fabulous Natural History series.

The "Welcome to the Museum" books have always made the bold claim that they contain an entire museum within the pages of a book, and when you see "Dinosaurium" by Lily Murray and Chris Wormell (currently dazzling everyone with his sublime cover art for "The Book of Dust") - the latest volume in the series, you really have to believe the hype.

In a year when we've seen quite an upsurge in dinosaur books, some great, some mediocre, we still have room in our Book of the Week slot for one that goes beyond the usual 'samey' stuff and really brings not only great artwork to the table, but some new and interesting facts from some of the world's leading palaeontologists (those wonderful folk who study dinosaur fossils, of course!)

Oh hai, you can call me Rex.
Collecting dinosaur species together in their various classifications, each page spread not only comes with one of Chris's fabulous illustrations, but also a ton of key facts that aren't dumbed down in any way, again giving this book (like all the other "Welcome to the Museum" books) a really broad age group appeal.

Pfff...who could possibly believe that Dinosaurs evolved into birds...oh.
Covering the main eras where Dinosaurs were the dominant creatures on the planet, the book's exquisite attention to detail makes this subject even more fascinating and interesting than ever before (and let's face it, dinosaurs were pretty flipping interesting in the first place!)

How's the weather up there?
Beautifully written, faultlessly presented and of course deliciously illustrated, we're really hoping this one finds its way into a lot of (oversized) christmas stockings. Utterly perfect!

Charlotte's best bit: Learning more about Oviraptosauria (bird-like dinosaurs).

Daddy's favourite bit: We love any non-fiction titles that don't talk down to their child audience. This fits the bill perfectly, in fact we can imagine this being a real 'keeper' for years and years to come.

"Dinosaurium (Welcome to the Museum Series)" by Lily Murray and Chris Wormell is out now, published by Big Picture Press (kindly supplied for review).

Don't forget the other stops on the fantastic "Dinosaurium" Blog Tour!
