Knock Knock Pirate by Caryl Hart and Nick East (Hodder Children's Books)

Oh my, it doesn't look like pirates are quite done and dusted in 2018. BUT we actually rather like this knockabout rhyming tale from Caryl Hart and Nick East...
"Knock Knock Pirate" is a fun story about a little girl who is home alone (eek!) while Dad is out.

In a sort of sea-doggy version of "The Cat in the Hat" she's soon invaded by a bunch of buccaneers who start robbing the house!

Thinking on her feet, the little girl comes up with a plan to distract them - handing them a road atlas, she manages to convince the crew that there be booty in that thar book and soon she's whisked off as cabin boy aboard the house-turned-pirate-ship!

Little ones will love the rhymes and the story, and the counting woven into the tale. But we rather liked the eclectic and crazy mix of pirate characters from a purple-haired female Pirate Captain, to the itchy fleabag pirate grandads and cannonball-riding crazy pirate grandmas who show up to join in the quest for pirate gold.

If your kids aren't quite ready to give up a life on the ocean waves, and still love all things piranautical, this is a fun book indeed!

C's fave bit: Pirate babies are SO CUTE!

Daddy's fave bit: A rumbustious rhyming and counting book, perfect for your salty sea dogs!

"Knock Knock Pirate" by Caryl Hart and Nick East is out now, published by Hodder Children's Books (kindly supplied for review).
