Cat and Dog by Helen Oswald and Zoe Waring (Willow Tree Books)

Oh my, now this one is a LOT of fun and is absolutely guaranteed to have your littlies all of a giggle...
But there's a warning here in "Cat and Dog" by Helen Oswald, and Zoe Waring.

Inevitably (just like us) you'll find you end up taking sides in that age-old battle between canine and feline. Who is right? There's only one way to find out.....SCRAP!

...and that's exactly what Cat and Dog do every evening. While Dog is awake all day, Cat sleeps. As Cat caterwauls all night, Dog is having doggy dreams of chasing balls and digging bones.

But in the evening they meet up for a grand old set-to (awesomely depicted in this energetic and clever book) with neither seeing the other's point of view.

Cat vs Dog: FIGHT!
The fights are pretty good natured, but eventually Cat and Dog's arguments over who is right and who is wrong boil over - and both end up not speaking to each other! OH NO!

Grand plans are afoot to bring Cat and Dog together once more
The silence goes on for days, with both in a complete grump until Cat hatches a plan. She has an idea on how to keep dog awake at night with some flashing christmas lights so that he can see their battleground more easily (Cats of course can already see in the dark).

Dog also hatches a plan of his own to keep Cat awake in the day, with some clattery pots and pans that will kick up enough of a din to wake the dead, let alone Cat.

When the two realise they've both been working towards the same aim - there's a beautiful reconcilliation (and of course another grand scrap!)

There's such a lot of energy and fizzing brilliance in this little book, it's an absolute treat to read aloud and it looks utterly charming from top to toe. A fab little lesson tucked in too about accepting each other's differences, and sometimes realising that compromise is better than an argument.

Love it!

"Cat and Dog" by Helen Oswald is out now, published by Willow Tree Books (kindly supplied for review).
