"Little Wise Wolf" by Gjis van der Hammen and Hanneke Siemensma (Book Island)

We can instantly relate to the titular character in this fantastic book from Book Island. A book loving wolf!
"Little Wise Wolf" by Gjis van der Hammen and Hanneke Siemensma opens as our Wolfy Booky hero is indulging in his favourite hobby...reading.

The problem with having a reputation for being well read is that people will pester you all the time for good advice. And that's exactly what happens with Little Wise Wolf. The villagers nearby always pose difficult questions, which the wolf can usually answer easily because he's so well read.

But then there's a crisis in the kingdom.

The king turns out to be seriously ill, and Little Wise Wolf is called on to use his knowledge to make him better again.

No time for anything but gazing at the stars and reading books. Oh that sounds utterly idyllic!
On the way to the palace it turns out that, although Little Wise Wolf may know a lot about the things he has read in his books, and seen in the stars, he has a lot to learn about the outside world.

Wolf embarks on his epic quest to save the king's life.

Still, off he travels and begins to realise that sometimes the only way to experience the amazing sights of our world is to get out there and enjoy it directly.

I think this picture was based on our living room at home.
We liked the initial message about being wise through being well read - and as the story continues, the other more subtle messages about living and experiencing life are well handled and fleshed out with the most glorious illustrations and text.

"Little Wise Wolf" by Gjis van der Hammen and Hanneke Siemensma is out now, published by Book Island (kindly supplied for review).
