"Oskar Can" by Britta Teckentrup (Prestel Publishing)

We're big fans of Britta Teckentrup's work, particularly her simple yet brilliantly observed stories for younger children...
"Oskar Can" is a welcome return for the busy, curious and active little crow.

Oskar loves lots of things, but he really loves to play - and make friends.

Oskar can skateboard and ski, Oskar can stack his pile of pebbles the highest.

Whenever Oskar is feeling a bit sad or perhaps even a bit ordinary, he thinks of all the amazing things he can do that make him - well, Oskar!

It's a great message for kids, always increasingly under pressure to feel that they have to perform well in school, or impress their parents - perhaps needlessly so, as we all treasure the things they do that they sometimes themselves may take for granted.

Oskar is one clever crow!
The message here is delivered with Britta's brilliant, simple and effective visuals, keeping the word count purposely low - but making this an idea book for emerging readers to tackle to boost their confidence in more ways than one.

Oskar and his birdy buddy on a bicycle made for two!
A lovely little book, with an engaging and relatable central character.
