Our first book(s) of the week this week are the first two titles in a fantastic new range from David Fickling Books.

The new "First Names" series aims to introduce famous figures who have excelled in their chosen fields, or inspired generations of men and women to get behind important movements and campaigns.

Starting off with Elon (Musk) and Emmeline (Pankhurst) the books are fantastically engaging, brilliantly written and attractively illustrated - taking you through the life and works of famous people.

Starting off with Elon (Musk) you'll learn how this innovative entrepreneur put his mega-mind into play, coming up with some of the most revolutionary inventions and ideas of the 21st century.

Elon Musk is a firm believer that humankind needs to make better use of the planet's natural resources to power us through the next era of our development. Endorsing the use of solar power, electric vehicles and even pioneering voyages into space to perhaps one day colonise other planets, he's an amazing inspirational character that kids will love learning about.

Emmeline (Pankhurst) hardly needs any introduction at all.

She fought a tough battle to win the vote for British women and inspired others around the world to do the same. In her early life you'll find out why she hated school, how she had to take lessons in stone throwing, what she thought when her daughter spat at a policeman and an awful lot more besides.

Get to know Emmeline  and Elon on FIRST NAME terms!

The books are truly brilliant, full of amazing facts and information delivered in a way that will pique children's curiosity and hopefully inspire them to become the next Elon or Emmeline themselves.

"First Names: Elon (Musk) and Emmeline (Pankhurst)" are both out now, published by David Fickling Books (kindly supplied for review).

Three more stunning titles in the fabulous "Little People, Big Dreams" series featuring Audrey Hepburn, Rosa Parks and Emmeline Pankhurst (Frances Lincoln Children's Books)

We're delighted to see three more additions to the fantastic "Little People, Big Dreams" series from Frances Lincoln Children's Books, celebrating noted female figures in history and the arts.

Starting with "Audrey Hepburn" by Isabel Sanchez Vegara and Amaia Arrazola, this is the fascinating story of the celebrated dancer, actress and UNICEF ambassador, and her amazing life.

Starting with her early life during World War Two, through to ballet school, covering her amazing films and  acting career and her UNICEF work in later life, the book is stylishly illustrated and presented in collectable and durable hard cover.

Many may be familiar with Audrey's acting work but this fascinating insight delves a little deeper into her incredible life.

"Little People, Big Dreams: Audrey Hepburn" by Isabel Sanchez Vegara and Amaia Arrazola is out now, published by Frances Lincoln Children's Books.

The second new title tells the amazing story of Rosa Parks.

Known as 'The Mother of the Freedom Movement', Rosa's inspiring story is covered from her early childhood up to the pivotal moment in her life when she stood up for her rights by refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus.

Her single act of defiance led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Her decision later had a huge impact on civil rights, eventually leading to the end of segregation on public transport and in other aspects of American life.

More timely now than ever, this story is a fascinating glimpse at Rosa's life and her strength of character, tested throughout the darker years of US history when segregation and racism were at their peak.

Needless to say, it's still a hugely important message today with what's going on in the world and in particular the US.

"Little People, Big Dreams: Rosa Parks" by Lisbeth Kaiser and Marta Antelo is also out now, published by Frances Lincoln Children's Books.

Last but by no means least, a fantastic addition to the series, taking a closer look at the life of a prominent women's rights activist and founder member of the Suffragette movement...

"Little People, Big Dreams: Emmeline Pankhurst" by Lisbeth Kaiser and Ana Sanfelippo covers the life of this amazing and inspiring women's rights activist who changed the world for future generations of women.

As a child, Emmeline Pankhurst was shocked at the inequality of men and women that she saw all around her.

When she grew up, she never stopped fighting for women to get the vote, inspiring other women to demonstrate, go on hunger strike and protest for the cause. To us it seems completely crazy to imagine a world where women were denied the vote, and again this is a hugely timely book release for what's going on with things like the pay gap and women's rights right across the globe.

With stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, this is another fantastic addition to an empowering series celebrating the important life stories of wonderful women of the world.

"Little People, Big Dreams: Emmeline Pankhurst" by Lisbeth Kaiser and Ana Sanfelippo is out now, published by Frances Lincoln Children's Books.
