Baabwaa and Wooliam by David Elliott and Melissa Sweet (Walker Books)

Here's a woolly tale with an utterly adorable couple. Meet Baabwaa and Wooliam, sheepy superstars!
Sometimes we come across books that just send us in unexpected directions. In "Baabwaa and Wooliam" by David Elliott and Melissa Sweet we absolutely adored this sheepy couple. Baabwaa loves to spend her spare time knitting (and when you think about it, that's a pretty great hobby for a sheep! Imagine having an inexhaustible supply of wool at your fingertips!)

Wooliam however, is a bit of a bookworm and loves to engross himself in pile after pile of books.

Though they lead an idyllic life, both feel that there must be something more to the world...and when they meet a very odd third sheep, one with large yellowing fangs, a tatty coat and a penchant for lamb casserole they suddenly realise what's actually missing in life, and this strange wolf in sheep's clothing actually ends up being a thoroughly unusual but worthwhile friend.

It's a hugely original tale, charmed the socks off us both - in fact we couldn't help but imagine Baabwaa and Wooliam as the stars of their own sheepy sitcom (oh my, wouldn't that be fantastic!) as we learn more about their lives, hopes and dreams - and of course their newfound friend's peculiarities too.

Charlotte's best bit: Acting out various classic fairy tales with their new best buddy.

Daddy's favourite bit: Hilarious, original and thoroughly entertaining. Baabwaa and Wooliam definitely deserve their own animated series! Someone make it happen!
