Our favourite booky girl is back, and it seems like only yesterday Lulu was getting ready to head to Nursery.
But now, like a lot of children (and in particular one of C's cousins) she's ready for big school.
In "Lulu's First Day" by Anna McQuinn and Rosalind Beardshaw, Lulu is wondering what school will be like.
Will it be lots of play and lots of booky fun like Nursery?
Will she make new friends?
Lulu is excited but a tiny bit nervous as well, but luckily her family are on hand to reassure her - and everyone gets up super-early to make sure Lulu's first day is a special one.

For many kids, it's quite an anxious time moving from Nursery to Pre-School then eventually to school proper, and this book beautifully captures those moments with a huge huge dose of feelgood reassurance. School is going to be so much fun for our booky little girl!
Sum this book up in a sentence: A perfect introduction to school life for kids who love reading about plucky booky girls, and Lulu is definitely one of our favourite characters in early years books.
"Lulu's First Day" by Anna McQuinn and Rosalind Beardshaw is out now, published by Alanna Max (kindly supplied for review).

When a Dragon Comes to Stay
The old saying goes "Manners maketh the man" but what of the dragon?
These noble beasts have impeccable manners but just like humans, their tiddly toddlers aren't always able to maintain their politeness or good behaviour.
"When a Dragon Comes to Stay" by Caryl Hart and Rosalind Beardshaw humorously examines what it would be like to host a sleepover for a scaly mythical beast.
Will the littlest dragon behave herself?

Will the littlest dragon behave herself?
Why, of course she will. Obviously she knows she must share her toys, eat daintily and skip happily upstairs at bathtime.
Well . . . not quite. Like all toddlers, this little dragon finds good manners a tiny bit tricky. It's lucky she has some friends to help her.
A great little story for tiny book fans who love dragons and brushing up their etiquette!
Sum this book up in a sentence: A lovely bedtime story with a cute central character trying hard to behave nicely at a sleepover (all adults are probably imagining horrific past scenarios where they've attempted to do the same with normal human kids rather than dragons, to disastrous effect!)

We do love a book character who positively explodes with Joie De Vivre so it's no big surprise that we really loved Lulu. In "Lulu Loves Flowers" by Anna McQuinn and Rosalind Beardshaw, we saw Lulu venturing out into the garden to plant lovely flowers and seeds.
Lulu is celebrating her 10th birthday this year and we're joining Anna, Rosalind and Alanna Books to wish this fabulous little girl a big boppin' happy birthday!
So let's take a closer look at Lulu and her adventures!
In "Lulu Loves the Library", Lulu is in our favourite place! Naturally we love any book that champions the fantastic stories you can borrow from your local library, and Lulu soon discovers that books are her most favourite thing!
One of the things we also really loved about the Lulu books was the fact that Dad was there, and it's so important to see a dad character in children's books that isn't some sort of hopeless comedy prop or klutz! Here's Lulu and Dad from "Lulu Loves Flowers"

Mum isn't left out either! Lulu and mum love to bake!

Mum also loves reading poems to Lulu, curled up in their favourite chair together.

Lulu Loves Flowers
Written by Anna McQuinn
Illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw
Published by Alanna Books
One look at this book's joyful cover will be enough to convince you that spring is on the way, and there's no better time to dive out into the garden and start planning what to plant and where to plant it.
Adorable Lulu loves getting out into the garden with her mum, and we share her enjoyment as Lulu is given her own crop of seeds and starts planting them, watering them and weeding around them.
Be patient Lulu, because when the sun begins to shine, those little seedlings can turn into something quite spectacular! Encouraging children to have a go and grow their own flowers, fruit and vegetables is a simple thing we can all do and we just loved how celebratory the Lulu books are about something that takes a little effort and perhaps a little bit of a wait, but reaps such amazing rewards (unless you're me, I am so not green fingered in any way but thankfully Mummy and Charlotte are!)
Join in with the fun with Lulu, she's our kinda gal!
Charlotte's best bit: Wonderful wonderful sunflowers explode into life to reward Lulu for her efforts! Hooray!
Daddy's Favourite bit: An adorable little girl growing her own flowers for the first time in a simple but really enjoyable story from Anna and Rosalind. Superb!

Diamonds aren't a girl's best friend, dogs are! Fran's friend is a lovely little tale about a girl and her dog. Her poor pooch is feeling a little left out, as Fran becomes absorbed in a very important activity. Fran doesn't want to play ball, doesn't want to go for walkies and doesn't even seem to want to take her dog outside at all - but the story wraps up with a lovely little ending that should make pooch owners smile.
Short, sweet and nicely illustrated.
Charlotte's best bit: Cutting out and sticking down
Daddy's favourite bit: The dog's various comments on Fran's busy activities
